quest’oggi mi trovo in Madagascar, dove su questa splendida isola anticamente gli indigeni vi raccontavano una storia alquanto agghiacciante.

Si diceva infatti di una creatura portatrice di morte che eseguiva le sentenze del diavolo, poggiandosi sul petto del prescelto bucandogli il cuore con il suo artiglio durante il sonno.

Cari umani oggi vi parlero’ dell Aye aye.

Purtroppo a causa di questa superstizione nei confronti di questa creatura, molti esemplari vennero sterminati assieme al proprio habitat.

Questa strana e a prima vista sinistra creatura, è alta circa 90cm

È stato descritto come un animale unico nel suo genere dalle orecchie da pipistrello, la faccia da volpe, gli occhi da gatto, il corpo da scimmia, le mani da strega e la coda ed i denti da scoiattolo.

La faccia è ricoperta da pelo rado, con ciuffi di peli sulle sopracciglia e sul muso: gli occhi sono relativamente piccoli, distanziati, verdastri e dalla pupilla verticale da animale notturno. Ai lati della testa spuntano due grandi orecchie ellittiche di colore nero lucido.
La faccia è rappresentata dagli incisivi larghi e piatti, estremamente simili a quelli dei roditori, che hanno crescita continua.

Le mani sono glabre e possiedono pollici opponibili: le dita sono lunghe, ricurve e dotate di forti unghie, in particolare il terzo dito delle mani anteriori sottile come un bastoncino scheletrico . Con questo bastoncino l’aye aye si procaccia il cibo.

Creatura dalla dieta onnivora, tramite il suo dito sottile, provocando colpetti sulla corteccia degli alberi, riesce a sentire i movimenti delle larve al di sotto di esso per poi praticare un incisione nell albero e arrivare all’insetto.

Ogni individuo marca il proprio territorio con secrezioni delle ghiandole su gola, guance e dei genitali. Insomma una creatura dall aspetto malefico ma senza dubbio ingegnosa ed intelligente.

Today I am in Madagascar, on this beautiful island where the natives once told a terrible story.
It spoke of a creature which brings death after judgement by the Devil, leaning on the breast of the chosen and making a hole into the heart with its claw during sleep.

Dear humans, today I’ll talk about the Aye Aye.

Unfortunately because of superstition against this creature, many were exterminated along with their habitat.
This strange creature still remains though and at first glance, it is about 90cm high
It was described as a unique animal-eared bat, with the face of a fox, cat’s eyes, and a monkey’s body, the hands of a Witch and the tail teeth of a squirrel.
The face is often covered with hair, with tufts of hair on the eyebrows and the nose: the eyes are relatively small, widely spaced, greenish with a vertical pupil, this is a nocturnal animal. On either side of the head two big ears stick out, elliptical and glossy black.
It has broad, flat teeth, very similar to those of rodents, which grow continuously.
The hands are hairless and have opposable thumbs, the fingers are long, curved and with strong nails, especially the third finger of the hands which are almost skeletal and thin as a stick. With this stick the Aye Aye obtains food.
An omnivore, this creature can feel the movements of larvae in trees by tapping on the bark, it then makes an incision in the tree and captures the bug.
Each marks its territory with secretions from glands on the throat, cheeks and genitals. In short, it is an evil looking creature but undoubtedly ingenious and clever.
